Résumé
Jonathan Reyes
Summary
Lead software engineer with 11 years building distributed systems, APIs, and developer platforms in regulated financial services. At Capital One, leads architecture for a high-throughput platform orchestrating communications with external dealership partners, and previously ran the platform ecosystem around the company-wide JFrog Artifactory binary repository. Owned external-facing lending APIs end to end. Author and maintainer of boost, an independent open-source package manager for AI coding skills. Works primarily in Java and Python on AWS, with a record of setting standards that spread beyond team boundaries.
Experience
Capital One
Plano, TX June 2019 – PresentLead Software Engineer
Feb 2023 – Present · Remote- Lead architecture, technical direction, and delivery for a high-throughput platform orchestrating communications with external dealership partners, built on AWS microservices (ECS, API Gateway, SQS, Kafka, Docker, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
- Led a zero-loss migration of a highly stateful distributed system between AWS accounts — coupled Spring Boot streams spanning Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQS, and Kafka — traffic-splitting live workloads under tight SLAs without dropping or duplicating a request.
- Built a document-intelligence pipeline using AWS Textract that extracts structured findings from unstructured partner documents, replacing manual review for analyst teams.
- Support PCI, NPI, and model-risk reviews — classifying sensitive data and remediating via tokenization and masking; re-architected the platform's LLM solution after data classification surfaced highly confidential information, evolving from Textract to AWS Bedrock and then to a self-hosted vLLM (Llama) deployment while tuning OCR schemas, prompts, and golden-set evaluations in production.
- Designed event-driven processing pipelines in which EventBridge rules trigger Step Functions orchestrating AWS Batch jobs over S3 file drops, with companion state machines verifying downstream delivery and raising alarms.
- Practice AI-assisted engineering daily (Claude Code, Windsurf) with MCP integrations across Jira, Confluence, and GitHub; integrate agent tooling into development workflows and set team conventions for its use.
- Prototyped a LangChain-based RAG developer-enablement tool at an internal hackathon — retrieval over large JSON corpora — that drew adoption requests from engineering managers across teams.
- Own production operations end to end: on-call rotations, incident triage, root-cause investigation, and continuous monitoring, alerting, and observability built on OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, New Relic, Splunk, PagerDuty, and Prometheus.
- Serve as Testing Champion for the Sales organization, defining test strategy and quality standards adopted across four engineering teams and reporting posture to leadership.
- Mentor engineers, serve as a technical interviewer for coding and system design, and lead cross-functional delivery from scoping through production; recognized with two ACE Awards for Technical Engineering Excellence (2024, 2025) and the Diamond Dealer Award (2024).
Principal Associate Software Engineer, Prequalified Applications
June 2021 – Feb 2023 · Remote- Architected and operated external-facing services powering auto loan prequalification for public applicants, owning API contracts and versioning, data models, AWS deployment, and production support end to end.
- Partnered with product and risk stakeholders to translate regulated lending requirements into resilient, scalable service architecture.
Principal Associate Software Engineer, Artifactory Platform & Metrics
June 2019 – June 2021- Ran the platform ecosystem around JFrog Artifactory, the company-wide binary repository (services deployed via Terraform); automated artifact promotion in production pipelines with AWS Lambda and DynamoDB, eliminating a manual release step for engineering teams across the enterprise.
- Delivered performance-analytics microservices and automated metrics pipelines feeding machine learning models.
IBM
Dallas, TX 2015 – 2019Software Engineer II
2017 – 2019- Built OpenShift (Kubernetes) deployments for microservices; migrated server provisioning to Netflix Conductor workflow orchestration, converting sequential job scheduling to parallel execution and cutting large-data processing from hours to minutes.
Software Engineer I (SoftLayer, acquired by IBM)
2015 – 2017- Developed APIs for globally integrated services; built Splunk dashboards for service metrics and health checks and contributed to the CI/CD functional test framework.
Open Source
boost — AI skills package manager
Independent personal project · 2025 – Present- Author and maintainer of an open-source CLI with its own MCP server that searches, installs, and governs AI coding skills across Claude Code, Windsurf, and Cursor — 72 commands spanning install, discovery, authoring, governance, and rollout.
- Designed the lock-file and audit model that treats agent skills as versioned, verifiable dependencies rather than copied files; indexes 10,000+ publicly available skills.
- Built the project's LLM evaluation harness: golden-set retrieval evals (recall@k, MRR, nDCG@k), ragas faithfulness scoring, and statistical-significance testing between retrieval engines, enforced as CI gates.
- Python 3.9+, one-line pip install (published on PyPI as
boost-skill-cli).
